Yes, Kauna'oa Bay and our Reserved Seating area on the beach is open for hotel guests to enjoy its pleasantly uncrowded and tranquil environment, perfect for unwinding and indulging in the comforts of a serene and spacious setting, free from crowds.
We anticipate work will begin on the Beach Wing in February of 2025 and will take approximately 6-7 months to complete.
The beach at Kauna’oa Bay will be accessible throughout the hotel renovation with the following changes:
- Public Beach Parking will be temporarily relocated from its current location to an area adjacent to the tennis courts.
- Access to the beach by residential guests and the public will be from the north end of the property from the tennis shop, past the luau grounds, across the north pointe lawn and down the path past Manta Point.
Currently, the resort pool is not under renovation. However, scheduled improvements are planned for February 2025, which include expanding the chaise lounge seating area and installing a new hot tub that will offer unobstructed ocean views of Kauna’oa Bay. Additionally, we will be adding a new infinity edge lap pool at our new wellness center, situated in front of the Main Tower. Both hotel pools are slated to reopen in Q3 of 2025.
We will assist any guest looking to relocate to our sister property, The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort, based on Westin Hapuna's availability.
For all meal periods, the resort will have one or more restaurants open to service our guests during the renovation.
BREAKFAST: Manta is currently closed for improvements and is scheduled to reopen October 28, 2024. Daily breakfast service has relocated to the Kauna'oa Room (next to Copper Bar) from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. Additionally, Copper Bar offers daily ready-made grab-n-go options and freshly brewed coffee for purchase from 6:30 to 11 a.m. During holiday periods, hotel restaurants will be open for registered hotel guests only, so please call ahead to confirm hours of operation.
LUNCH: Hau Tree will remain open throughout the entire renovation and will be open to guests of the resort as well as the general public. During holiday periods, the restaurant will be open for registered hotel guests only, so we highly recommend calling ahead to confirm hours of operation.
DINNER: During the renovation, guests will have two dinner options available at all times. Manta is currently closed as it is undergoes enchancements and will reopen on October 28, 2024. Guests can enjoy dinner service at Copper Bar and Hau Tree. Additional dining options are available at our sister property's restaurants—Meridia, Naupaka and Piko—located at The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. During holiday periods, these retaurants will be open for registered hotel guests only, so please call in advance to confirm hours of operations and availability.
LUAU: We are open for the duration of the renovation and will continue normal operating hours and admission. Please visit our website or call Concierge for reservations.

Number 3 is closed indefinitely during the time of Main Tower renovation, as it will act as the check-in location for guests.

Due to limited parking at the resort while renovating, the dining outlets during dates (November 23-29, and December 20, 2024 to January 3, 2025) will only be available to overnight guests, club members, and Mauna Kea Resort homeowers. Access to the Public Beach Parking will remain open for guests to enjoy access to Kauna’oa Bay.

It will be closed for a period of time during the renovation as we undergo major construction for a new a luxurious destination spa that will offer an elevated experience for our guests. We currently do not have a specific timeline; our resort team is currently working with contractors and will be providing us with more information soon.
Our sister-property, The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort’s spa will be open for appointments or guests are able to book signature treatments in the comfort of their guest room or suite.
Renovation work started on April 15, 2024 and will be fully completed during third quarter in 2025. We are continuously working with our contractor on the renovation timeline and scope of work. Please continue to check back on this site for updates and announcements.
The resort’s renovation will be conducted in two phases: Phase One includes the closure of the Main Tower on April 15. Phase Two includes closure of the Beach Wing tentatively starting February of 2025. This timeline may change depending on the contractor’s progress.
Most of the renovation work will take place behind decorative barriers and out of guest view. While we anticipate some construction noise during the renovation, noisy work will be restricted to the hours of 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Minimizing the impact of the renovation on our guests’ experience remains a top priority. We will provide guest access to the various accessible areas of the resort to optimize the safety and comfort of our guests.
The Mauna Kea Golf Course is currently closed for an extensive enhancement of its fairways, greens, and bunkers. We are thrilled to have the renowned Robert Trent Jones Jr. spearheading this renovation project and eagerly anticipate unveiling the full 18-hole course in late December of this year.
Yes, fitness center access will be uninterrupted during the renovation. Once our new Spa Wellness Center is complete, our current fitness center will relocate to its new home.
Yes, we will be making improvement to both areas. During the upgrade process, we will relocate both the front desk and concierge services to our Number 3 restaurant located adjacent to the golf clubhouse.
Guest Parking will be relocating to the Beach Parking Lot during Phase One of our renovation, so our guests are closer to the temporary check-in area in Number 3. Once the Main Tower has completed upgrades, Guest Parking will be moved back to the traditional guest parking area.
The salon will remain open for the duration of the renovation at its original location in the Beach Wing until the resort’s new salon facility completed. Starting April 15, the salon will maintain its normal operating hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays but will be closed on Fridays and Saturdays.
We are working with our contractor on a new retractable outdoor awning, additional oceanfront seating, new buffet area, improved lighting and audio, and new furniture. Manta is scheduled to reopen on October 28, 2024.
Yes, supporting local musicians is important to us and our community. In addition to our weekly lūʻau that is available on Tuesdays and Fridays, we will continue to offer live Jazz on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings at Manta once it reopens on October 28, 2024, and nightly Hula and live Hawaiian music at Copper Bar.
All shops in the main tower are currently closed and will remain closed during Pahse One of our renovation. We will temporarily relocate some of our most popular product lines from Koi Boutique and Mauna Kea Beach Shop to Mauna Kea’s Golf Shop. Mauna Kea Golf Shop is open daily from 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. For more information, please call the golf shop at (808) 882-5405.
Yes, Seaside Tennis Club will be open and fully operational to welcome guests throughout the entire project.
Public areas in our Main Tower lobby level will not be accessible while that tower is under renovation (April-November). On the promenade level, access to restaurants, fitness and business centers will be provided via designated pathways.
