Our Season of Renewal started with the relocation of our beloved 'Ulu (breadfruit) tree. This special tree, believed to be planted during the hotel's original construction, is part of Rockefeller's vision of creating a modern space that blends with nature's elements.
The relocation of this iconic tree was done with careful planning and marks the first step in developing our resort's citrus, vegetable and herb garden that will provide our chefs and restaurants with fresh ingredients.

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel has completed Phase One of its renovation, and the Main Tower is now open after an extensive renovation of guest rooms and suites, Main Lobby, retail shops and Mauna Kea Market. The Main Tower offers a variety of room types and views, including ocean front and golf vista accommodations, and well-appointed luxury Suites.
Phase Two of our renovation will include the continued development of our brand-new destination spa, slated to open in December 2025. This luxurious, wellness-focused retreat will feature 11 state-of-the-art treatment rooms, offering a comprehensive range of services designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Inspired by tranquil, picturesque surroundings, our spa will provide guests with a serene escape from the demands of everyday life, allowing for true relaxation and rejuvenation.
Our new oceanfront fitness center is being designed to elevate your wellness experience, featuring a wide range of equipment and a vibrant atmosphere to motivate and inspire. At the heart of the gym are the Peloton bikes, offering an engaging and immersive cycling experience that allows guests to participate in live and on-demand classes led by world-class instructors.
Phase Two of our renovation will include the Beach Wing’s ocean-facing hotel accommodations, spanning four (4) floors, each offering stunning ocean views. This wing also offers an easy pathway directly to the white sand beach and gentle waves of Kauna’oa Bay. Every room features a furnished lanai (balcony), with ground-floor rooms offering patios which open directly onto the beach lawn.
Our newly created Keiki Discovery Garden will feature inherent and endemic species plants which are native to Hawaii and deeply rooted in Hawaiian tradition. The garden supports the islands' unique ecosystem by fostering native wildlife, including endangered birds. As a part of the resort’s continued sustainability efforts, this garden offers guests the opportunity to learn about the cultural and ecological importance of these native species while contributing to conservation efforts. Opening in late 2025.
Our resort's Jacuzzi will be relocating to a prime new location, closer to the edge of the resort's current family pool, offering guests an enhanced experience with unobstructed, front-and-center views of the stunning Kauna'oa Bay. Set against a backdrop of breathtaking ocean vistas, this refreshed spot at the resort's family pool will allow you to relax in the soothing waters while taking in the unparalleled beauty of the bay—making every moment even more unforgettable.
Our hotel pool will be closed from February 1, 2025, until August 2025; however, guests can still enjoy our beach services at Kauna’oa Bay. During this time, some noisy work will occur, restricted to the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and contained behind safety barriers.
Indulge in the ultimate beauty and wellness experience at our new and relocated full-service salon, where luxury meets relaxation. Whether you're preparing for a special occasion or indulging in self-care, our expert stylists and beauticians deliver exceptional services to enhance your natural beauty, leaving you rejuvenated and radiant.
A newly created parking feature for Beach Wing hotel guests provides enhanced convenience and easy access, ensuring a seamless experience for families and visitors staying in this location. Located just steps from the guestrooms, this new parking area offers greater accessibility and comfort.
Nestled on the resort grounds, our Chef’s Garden features over 25 varieties of fresh, seasonal produce that are harvested daily and incorporated into our farm-to-table dining experiences. With ingredients ranging from vibrant leafy vegetables to fragrant herbs, citrus and other fruits, the garden provides the perfect foundation for creating flavorful, authentic dishes. The hotel is committed to sustainability, and the garden uses organic growing methods, water conservation practices, and waste-reduction strategies to minimize our environmental footprint. By sourcing locally and reducing transportation, we support the local agricultural community while offering guests a deeper connection to the land. The Chef’s Garden is not only a source of exceptional ingredients but also an opportunity for guests to learn about sustainable farming practices and the journey from seed to plate.
Hau Tree’s kitchen will undergo significant improvements to enhance service, and increase menu options, ensuring an even better dining experience for our guests. While the restaurant will remain open during renovations for meal service, guests may notice some noise during the day, which is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We recommend calling in advance for operating hours and menu availability.
