Farm-To-Table Sustainability
Our Season of Renewal started with the relocation of our beloved 'Ulu (breadfruit) tree. This special tree, believed to be planted during the hotel's original construction, is part of Rockefeller's vision of creating a modern space that blends with nature's elements.
The relocation of this iconic tree was done with careful planning and marks the first step in developing our resort's citrus, vegetable and herb garden that will provide our chefs and restaurants with fresh ingredients.
We invite you to witness this once-in-a-lifetime experience by watching the video below. During your stay at the hotel, be sure to visit the 'Ulu tree in our newly established 'Chef's Garden' along with an impressive variety of various vegetation, at the North End of the resort, directly in front of the Seaside Tennis Club.

Mauna Kea Resort is outstanding. From the moment you arrive to the minute you leave. This place is what other resorts strive for. The resort staff are very welcoming and patient with all the questions/requests a person could ask. The rooms are perfect with great views of the beach. Currently, the resort is under renovation(which you don't notice).. this is a good thing. The occupancy is down to a minimum, which means less wait time at the restaurant, beach side bar and more space at the beach. Oh the beach.. just wow. Swimming with the Manta Rays, Green Sea turtles and other native sea life that frequent the area. Go book it now, you won't regret it.

Incredibly gorgeous! They are going through a large scale renovation effort so some areas are blocked off. But it is still a stunning property—outstanding views, amenities, hospitality. Would highly recommend!

Our room is beach front with a patio. We had the most amazing view. The beach is great and plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The food is amazing. There are constructions going however didn't it feel like it. It didn't feel like everyone was on top of each other. I will definitely stay here again.

The Mauna Kea is one of our favorites on the Big Island. The beach and restaurants are fantastic. Service is excellent! We especially loved being here during the renovation. Quiet and peaceful with about a third of the rooms occupied. It was fabulous! Can't wait to come back after the renovation is completed.

Beautiful views and beach. Half of the hotel is under a long refurbishment. The golf course is also being upgraded. At first we thought the construction would be an issue but we realized that with the resort being half empty it made it even better. No problems getting an umbrella or chairs by the pool. Easy to get into the restaurants on the property as well. All the staff were fantastic. The room was large and clean with great views of the ocean. We would definitely stay here again.

We spent a week here with out family for vacation and we agreed - one of our favorites! We were there while they were remodeling the main tower, but everything was still so nice. We had beach front rooms and loved opening the curtains to the gorgeous bay each morning. There are plenty of spaces throughout the resort to sit and enjoy the views - from the beach, the lawn, the many patios and the pool. When we were there, it was low capacity due to the construction but it was very quiet and relaxing. The bay is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. They offer boat rides and other fun adventures. We felt safe and also safe letting back to HI, we would stay here again.

We are excited that the hotel is going through a major renovation because it really needs it. The grand dame is an old worn out battleship and needed a facelift. We look forward to the finished product. The dining experience at both the Manta and Meridia was fantastic. Kauna’oa Beach is the very best white sand beach on the Big Island, possibly even in all of Hawaii and that beach is what makes the hotel experience complete. In its current renovation state.

Spent a week there and it was perfect! It was actually really nice staying there without it being at full capacity! The grounds were impeccable as always and the staff were amazing. The construction was not one bit annoying as the entire wing thery’re working on is closed off. We can’t wait to see it when you’re finished!
